Home of the Sun |
| Synopsis: |
Following the last Ice Age, a large meteorite struck Saaremaa, the largest island in the Baltic Sea. The meteoroid broke into pieces when penetrating the atmosphere, and the collision with Earth caused the Kaali meteorite crater field. In the opinion of many scientists, the meteorite collision left an unforgettable impression on the peoples around the Baltic Sea. References to this event can be found in ancient traditions.
In the 4th century BC the Greek explorer, Pytheas, described the island lying far to the north, Ultima Thule, where barbarians showed him the place where the sun lay down to sleep.
